Atlantic Forest: Brazilian ecosystem example

Ecosystem is a community of organisms that interact with each other and the environment to which they belong. We can cite as an example of environment: lake, forest, savannah, tundra, etc.

Understanding the ecosystem: key features

Also part of a system are all abiotic (lifeless) components such as minerals, ions, organic compounds and climate (temperature, rainfall and other physical factors).

Biotic components (living things) are represented at various levels, they are classified as follows:

Producers - eg autotrophs - are living things capable of producing their own food through inorganic substances, such as plants that perform photosynthesis through sunlight.

Consumers - eg, heterotrophs - are beings that feed on other beings because, unlike autotrophs, they are unable to produce their own food. This classification includes all animals, most fungi and some plants.

Decomposers - eg saprophytes - organisms that feed on other organisms in decomposition stage. Among them are fungi and bacteria.

It is important to know that within this classification, one organism depends on the other, because, after going through its “last cycle”, organic compounds are used within the ecosystem as nutrient for producers, thus starting a new cycle.
